After a successful opening day, LOPE-C (Large-area, Organic & Printed Electronics) 2013, sponsored by the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) and Messe Munchen, returns for its second day with a variety of presentations covering hot topics such as smart objects, OLED lighting, displays, photovoltaics, inks and materials and much more. The Plenary Session opens today with two overviews from OE-A leaders. OE-A chairman Dr. Stephan Kirchmeyer of Heraeus Precious Metals GmbH & Co. KG will begin the Plenary Session with his talk on “The Transition of Organic and Printed Electronics to Business.” He will be followed by LOPE-C chairman Wolfgang Mildner, managing director of PolyIC GmbH & Co KG and an OE-A board member, who will discuss “Crossing the Chasm – Printed Electronics Effectively Implemented.” Graphene has become a topic of interest in the field of printed electronics, and Dr. Irina Grigorieva, director of The North West Nanoscience Doctoral Training Centre, University of Manchester, will offer her insights in her presentation on “Graphene: Magic of Flat Carbon.” The Plenary Session will conclude with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Bernard Kippelen, director of the Center for Organic Photonics & Electronics (COPE), Georgia Institute of Technology, who will offer his thoughts on “Innovating Organic and Printed Electronics.” LOPE-C 2013 will then break into four concurrent sessions, two each for the Technical Conference and Scientific Conference. The Technical Conference will look at a wide variety of topics, including Smart Objects, 3D-Printing, OLED Lighting, Encapsulation and New Materials: • Smart Objects – State-of-the-Art Technologies and Applications I includes talks by Ynvisible, Mekoprint A/S and Gemalto. • 3D-Printing and Digital Fabrication offers presentations from University of Nottingham, Materialise N.V., Océ-Technologies B.V. and a Panel Discussion on 3D-Printing and Digital Fabrication, led by Thomas Kolbusch of Coatema Coating Machinery GmbH. • Smart Objects – State-of-the-Art Technologies and Applications II features talks by speakers from TactoTek, Schneider Electric Strategy & Innovation and TUD IAPP. • New and Proven Encapsulation Methods offers insights from SAES Getters, AMCOR Flexibles and Philips. • OLED Lighting features speakers from Philips Technologie GmbH, OM&T/Moser Baer Technologies Europe, Holst Centre and Solvay. • New Materials – Graphene and Its Applications is covered by presenters from Centre for Graphene Science at University of Exeter, Graphenea S.A. and University of Cambridge. The Scientific Conference includes the following sessions: • Conductive and Nanoparticulate Inks features talks by Liquid X Printed Metals, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Swansea University and Agfa-Gevaert N.V. • Displays and Display Devices includes presentations by LIM Liquids in Motion GmbH, Opalux, University of Cologne, Fluxim AG and Ynvisible. • Conductor Processing offers speakers from XaarJet AB, Swansea University, Friedrich-Schiller-University and Holst Centre. • Novel Printing and Processing includes talks from Von Ardenne Anlagentechnik GmbH, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and American Semiconductor, Inc. • Encapsulation and Barriers features presentations from TNO, Fraunhofer COMEDD, Fraunhofer IWS and Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA). • Photovoltaic Devices will include discussions by leaders from Holst Centre, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland and University of Rome.
